Texting Lingo

I had to learn to text message in self defense...my Granddaughter does texting at the speed of lightening. She never answers her phone, so I had to learn to text to communicate with her. Sometimes it takes me a few minutes to read what she has texted to me, because she uses so much texting lingo. OMG (Oh My Goodness) it makes me crazy. Some days it makes me LMAO (Laugh My Ars Off) other days it DMC (Drives Me Crazy). Some days I totally text to her using texting lingo just to make her laugh. She says Granny you are TF (Too Funny). The following are a few of the texting lingo terms you might need to know if you are texting.

New Restaurant on Route 66

My husband took me on a lunch date at the new Mexican Cafe on Route 66.
People look at you funny when you pull out the camera to take photos of the food.
I love chips and salsa!
We both ordered beef soft tacos.
I wanted rice and beans and he wanted Mexican corn and mashed potatoes.
I took the photo of my plate and handed the camera to him and he photographed his.
He is such a good sport when it comes to my blogging and photos!
Their food is really good just look at the meat in those tacos.
I could eat Mexican food every day, but Chinese is really my favorite.

Birthday Yard Signs

Birthday Yard Signs
If you need a fun, cheap, easy way to surprise someone on their birthday...
I take paper plates and write HAPPY BIRTHDAY or the number of how old they are turning on the plates. I use regular wire coat hangers and straighten them out with the hanger "hook" being the part I stick into the ground. You need two plates for each hanger. Then I staple the plates onto the straightened coat hanger so the writing will show on both sides.

This top photo I used 18 hanger signs (36 plates), because my granddaughter was turning 18. I went to her house after midnight and put them in her yard. We stopped by the next morning on our way to work and my husband snapped this photo out the car window as we drove by.

The next photo I only used 6 hanger signs (12 plates) and lined the lucky person's drive, plus added a styrofoam "head stone." I did this one during the day, the birthday girl was working! So never toss those wire hangers...they can be used!
When my oldest daughter turned 30, I put 30 hanger signs (60 plates) all over her front yard and it was quite an impact. The more you use the better it looks. I also went back at the end of the day and retrieved the hangers and reused them eight months later when her best friend turned 30. The only danger is sneaking around in the middle of the night to decorate someone's yard!

My Granddaughter turned 18 last month and she went to register to vote. I was there to take her photo, because registering to vote in our family is a big deal. Exercising our right to vote is important. Women started trying to get the right to vote in 1848 and it was not until 1920 and the 19th Amendment that they were allowed to vote. Those 72 years it took was worth it.
On Tuesday, November 6, 2012, the U.S. Presidential Election will be held for all 435 members of the United States House of Representatives and 33 of the 100 members of the United States Senate. On that day, only 60%-70% of American registered voters are projected to exercise their right to vote. That is a really sad percentage! And just think about all the people who are not registered to vote.

If you are over 18 years old you need to register to vote for state and federal elections in your state of residence. Why? Because it is your duty as well as a privilege of being a citizen of the United States of America. The right to vote is important for all citizens to vote in every election. American citizens who do not vote lose their voice in the democratic process and that in turn hinders the voice of our elected representatives in the U.S. Congress as they work to effectively represent the political opinions of the constituency of their state. It upsets me when I hear people complaining about elected officials and things happening in our city, state, or federal government when they did not vote. I feel that if they did not vote they do not have the right to complain.

Party Table Decoration

My husband went to a meeting and these table decorations were placed all along the center of the tables. They used and unopened diet coke for the base of the centerpieces. Next they took a piece of cardboard and hot glued shiny and clear colored wrapping paper up around a skewer stick. Between the layers of paper, curly ribbon and jolly rancher candies were glued in place next to the skewer stick. To top it off they took the organization theme and printed it out on the computer and glued it to each side of a CD. These would be good for a birthday party with a photo of the birthday person or the number of the age or many other personalizations.

Vitamin C

I love WebMD Health newsletter...I have subscribed for a long time, because I think it is interesting to learn about new studies and other stuff they write about. This article about taking Vitamin C to help lower blood pressure was one I wanted to share with you. I have taken extra Vitamin C for years just to help my immune system. I think it especially helps keep colds away in the winter months. You might want to subscribe to WebMD Health newsletter too.
Extra Vitamin C May Help Lower Blood Pressure

Taking Supplements May Slightly Reduce High Blood Pressure, Study Suggests

Vitamin C supplements may help to lower blood pressure, a new study suggests.
In this review study, scientists analyzed data from 29 different clinical trials and about 1,400 adults aged 22 to 74.

The median dose of supplemental vitamin C taken by the study participants was 500 milligrams a day over a median of an eight-week period. In people who had high blood pressure, systolic blood pressure (the top number in a reading) dropped by nearly 5 points, while diastolic pressure (the bottom number) dropped by about 1.7 points.

"Our research suggests a modest blood pressure lowering effect with vitamin C supplementation," researcher Edgar "Pete" R. Miller III, MD, PhD, says in a news release.

"But before we can recommend supplements as a treatment for high blood pressure, we really need more research to understand the implications of taking them," says Miller, an associate professor in the division of general internal medicine at the Johns Hopkins School of Medicine in Baltimore.

Other studies have suggested a possible link between people with higher intakes of vitamin C from food or supplements and lower blood pressure. But the evidence of this effect from clinical trials has been mixed.

Nearly 1 in 3 American adults has high blood pressure, which increases their risk for heart disease and stroke. The condition is typically treated by dietary changes, exercise, not smoking, losing weight, and medication.

Across all the studies -- some included healthy adults and others had people with high blood pressure -- taking vitamin C supplements at a dose of about 500 milligrams a day appeared to reduce systolic blood pressure by nearly 4 points and diastolic pressure by about 1.5 points in about two months.

Fruits and vegetables, especially red pepper, oranges, grapefruits, and kiwi, are the best dietary sources of this antioxidant-rich vitamin.

Adult women are advised to get 75 milligrams of vitamin C daily, and it's recommended that adult men get 90 milligrams of the nutrient daily. The Institute of Medicine’s daily maximum limit that is considered safe is 2,000 milligrams of vitamin C for adult males and adult females.

But the scientists say that many of the studies were small, and in some of them, vitamin C was taken in addition to blood pressure medication. They are not yet suggesting that the supplement is a natural alternative to drugs that lower pressure.

It's unclear whether taking vitamin C for more than two months will achieve long-lasting changes in blood pressure.

"Although our review found only a moderate impact on blood pressure, if the entire U.S. population lowered blood pressure by 3 [points], there would be a lot fewer strokes," Miller says.

Callie Ann Cat String

My husband keeps a couple of long shoe strings tied together to play string with the cats. Callie Ann brought the string over next to my chair and started rolling over and flipping around on the string. She was telling me she wanted me to play string with her. I thought she was so funny so I took these photos of her. She was really twisting and turning. Cats communicate in so many ways. Callie Ann shows us what she wants and our other cat Lizzie Tu meows at us.

Grandson's Basketball Goal

I am forever signing my husband's name up for drawings at the local grocery store. This time they were giving away a variety of ball game stuff. Of course, I never think about it again after I drop his name in the box. Well, he got a call that he had won a basket ball goal and to come to the store and pick it up. So off we went to the store, both of us thinking it was just the round hoop part. When we got to the store they ask if he was in a truck? He said no he was in a van. It was too funny when they came out....he laid all the van seats down to fit this basketball goal into the vehicle. We dropped it off at our grandson's house and he was thrilled with the basketball goal and basketball.
