Spider Alert

My friend sent me this e-mail after I was telling her that my son's girlfriend, Vanessa, had been admitted to the hospital for a spider bite. She said her whole arm was swollen and it blistered up all around the bite. We were all alarmed at how quickly the bite made her sick and then when they kept her at the hospital. I just wanted to share this information with everyone to watch out and be careful this year. All "varmits" are worse this year, because of our mild winter.

If you don't look at but one picture, be sure you take a look at the last one so that you will know what the spider looks like! It's springtime & cleanup is going on. Be careful where you put your hands. They like dark spaces & woodpiles. Also areas in closets, the attic, the garage and in the woods under logs etc.

This guy was bitten by a Brown Recluse spider.
I can't put the rest of the photos on here, because they were awful!
This guy's hand split open and was just too graphic.
The Brown Recluse Spider is the most dangerous spider that we have in the USA. A person can die from it's bite. We all should know what the spider looks like. Send this around to people you love, because it is almost summertime. People will be digging around, doing yard work, spring cleaning, and sometimes in their attics.

Please be careful. Spider bites are dangerous and can have permanent and highly negative consequences. They like the darkness and tend to live in storage sheds or attics or other areas that might not be frequented by people or light. If you have a need to be in your attic, go up there and turn on a light and leave it on for about 30 minutes before you go in to do your work!

This is Vanessa's arm...makes me hurt to look at it.

  1. Oh my gosh! How is she doing now? Did they figure out what kind of spider it was that bit her? I hope it heals quickly and that she feels better soon.

We have these spiders here in NC and as silly as it sounds, it was one of the big reasons I was nervous about moving! I worry more about the cats than me and my husband--whenever they see a spider, they try to play with it!

  2. We've been in Texas 2.5 years and thankfully have never seen either of these spiders and I hope we never do. We just hired an organic pest management company to come spray for critters because I'm so worried about one of my girls getting bit.

  3. My dad has been cleaning up his yard in Orlando Oklahoma and so far found 2 black widows. Becareful and that don't include the snake skin we found in his boat, seems my dad is a yard hoarder and we are trying to get him to let go of his crap, he to old to think he wants to do something with it all! So far we've gotten rid of a boat full of coke cans over $400.00 worth, then he sawed up the boat and trashed it.
