Beef Roast w/Onion Soup and Ranch

BEEF ROUND RUMP ROAST BONELESS
When my husband and I go shopping together we cruise down the meat counter and look for anything priced under $3 a pound. We also look for the orange sticker that says reduced. The reduced items usually have a sell by date within a day or two. If we do not plan to cook the meat that day or the next we toss it in the freezer.

The goal of our meat shopping is to have our servings cost under $2 each. In the case of this roast it made enough servings for the two of us for 4 meals. (No, we did not use the deck of cards example to measure our servings!) If it is something we do not want to have for several meals in a row, we put the servings in a ziplock bag and freeze them. Since we both take our lunch most of the time these already cooked meats are great to take out and put in our lunches.

My husband took this roast and cooked it in the crockpot. He put a few potatoes in the bottom of the pot and put the roast on top of them. Next he sprinkled a package of dry ranch mix over the roast and then a package of dry onion soup on top of that.
Then he placed a package of carrots around the roast. Poured in about a half cup of water and put the lid on the crockpot. He cooked it for 8 hours on high. Our crockpot does not get as hot as some, so you need to know your pot. Most of the time he cooks things on low while we are gone to work, but this was a weekend.
This was a really good beef roast. This recipe could also be used on pork or chicken or about any type of meat. How simple just a package of ranch mix and a package of onion soup mix!
I added a little spicy brown mustard to my meat.
It's days like this that I am so thankful to have a husband that likes to cook! Yummy!

  1. I love pot roast! I also use onion soup but have never used Ranch - I need to try that!
