Oklahoma Route 66 - Early Days

The Mother Road began in Chicago, the historical gateway to the West, travel through St. Louis, Missouri, Tulsa and Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, Amarillo, Texas, Tucumcari and Gallup, New Mexico, Holbrook and Flagstaff, Arizona and finally to Barstow and Los Angeles, California covering roughly 2,400 miles.

Travel was not the most comfortable going across the country,
on the narrow cement two lane road.
The vehicles would over heat crossing the dessert, so a water bag was needed.
Travelers loaded everything they could get in their vehicle to make the move west.
Displays of various service station items are found at the museum.
